Be Their Voice - An Inspiring Story from Thistle Farms

"Hi, Shana!  It's Karyn from Delicate Fortress.  I need to order 3 more boxes of lip smoothies, please.  I can't keep them in stock!"

Shana from Thistle Farms
"Sure thing, sweetie", says Shana, in a Southern accent on the other end of the line, "I'd be happy to take care of that right away for you!"

She means it.  3 days later lip smoothies are on our doorstep waiting for your purchase.

Earlier this week, I sent out an email asking our suppliers if they could give me something concrete to share with you about how your purchases make a difference.  I emailed Shana and her response caught me very off guard.  You see, I wasn't expecting someone normal to be the face of human trafficking.  I didn't believe a survivor could heal that much.

You hear people talk about human trafficking, but I didn't know I was interacting with living proof that human trafficking exists and can stop.  It gives me hope.  I hope Shana's story instills hope and passion in you as well.

Every time you purchase one of our Thistle Farms items, this is what you are doing.  I give you Shana's story.....

One way you are helping is spreading the word that love heals through our products.

We just welcomed three new women this morning to Thistle Farms. One was so happy to have a job she was crying. It really touched my heart. Without the help from our community and retailers, most women would not have a chance at a new life. Just seeing the face of a woman who believes she is worthy to be loved, much less employed, goes far beyond words.

As for me, I was in addiction at an early age and sold into prostitution at an early age. I now have two years clean and I am a Jr. Sales Rep. for Thistle Farms, a graduate of the program, and living proof that love does heal.

There are so many more women on the streets who do not know or even understand that there is a chance for a better life. With one candle or lotion at a time, we spread the word of love and hope. Thank you for all your support.

Simply beautiful.

  1. I truly have tears in my eyes reading this. I have been enjoying the hand soap and lotion from Thistle Farms everyday...and I do look at those bottles and think, "these items cost a bit more, but it's worth it, right?". Thank you for this story reminding me just how "worth it" it is! It makes a difference where we shop. Thank you for sharing who is behind the products we are purchasing and using. The things we mindlessly buy and use each day...there is much more to it.

    1. Thank you so much Melissa! They do 'cost a bit more' because they are bringing jobs, housing, food....and self-esteem to many women. Each purchase is a tremendous gift to the women in this program. We are grateful to you and each person who shows they believe in the healing power of love by supporting us!

      grace and peace,

Marlei, Shana and all the women of Thistle Farms!
