I AM THEIR VOICE - Using Social Media to Stop Human Trafficking

Today we begin the week in which Human Trafficking Awareness Day is most widely recognized.

All through this week, we will give you ways to BE THE VOICE of our aritsans and the exploited around the world.  First up:

There are over 1.2 billion people on Facebook alone - today.  Imagine combining forces and hitting Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, You Tube, and Google+ to be the voice of the exploited!  The potential for change, using all those fronts, is enormous.

A21 shares the the following story

Natalia went to a coffee shop to meet up with a guy that her friends introduced her to.  She was so excited about going on a date.  She remembered laughing and talking with him and thinking they were having a great time.  What she didn't realize was that when she went to the bathroom, he drugged her coffee, causing her to pass out.  He then threw her in the trunk of a car as if she was nothing more than a piece of baggage.  When he arrived at the Greek border, he simply paid off the security guards and entered the country freely.  When she awoke, she was in a different country chained to a bed.  She was raped and beaten repeatedly.  2 weeks later, Natalia was sold as a sex slave.

Natalia found hope when she was rescued and brought to one of the A21 safe houses.  She received full medical care including stitches for her open wounds and treatment after she tested positive for HIV.  She was provided life skills and job training to help her take back ownership of her life, ultimately restoring her dignity, giving her freedom, hope and a brand new chance at life.

A21 lawyers helped to see Natalia's traffickers sentenced to 15.5 years in prison and given a $142,000 fine.

There is hope for these girls.  You can be part of that hope.  Pin this post and share it on facebook and twitter (we'll be putting up a picture on Facebook today to make that easy).  Go.  BE THEIR VOICE.
